| Description (top) Prep Step is a biodegradable and is a GREEN product used on rusty steel or freshly prepared steel that has been dipped, stripped or sand blasted. It is a combination of complex phosphate salts, esters and wetting agents. Prep Step is a powder and is not an acid, therefore flash rust development of the substrate is abated for a significant amount of time depending on temperature and humidity (normally 30 days). Metal Conditioner changes the molecular structure, phosphatizing the surface, and adjusting the pH to 6, both conditions resulting in greater paint performance Product Uses (top) Rusted Surfaces: Prep Step will soften and help remove loose rust particles, while solidifying the tight rust left behind. Prep-Step also phosphatizes the surface and adjusts its pH to 6, both of which are ideal conditions for paint adhesion. Freshly Prepared Steel: Prep Step adjusts the pH and phosphatizes the surface, thus forestalling flash rust. So if you have a project that has been dipped, stripped or sandblasted and you can't get it painted for a period of time, Prep-Step powder that has been dissolved in water, sprayed on, and allowed to dry will give you a 30 day holding period before coating. General Cleaning: Prep Step will help you remove dirt, grime, greases, oils, salts, silicones and neutralize lime from steel surfaces. It is not harmful to sound painted surfaces. Rusty Tools can be restored by mixing 1/5 Prep Step to 4/5 water and drop the rusty tools in to soak for 10 days. It doesnt affect paint, gaskets, etc but it will remove the rust and oils. Prep Step is great to blue gun barrels Weld Joints: Weld joints can be cleaned of contamination by applying Prep Step and then cleaned conventionally by orbital sander, handtool, etc. After weld joint is cleaned, reapply Metal Conditioner, allow to dry and the surface will be adjusted to ph6 and ready for coating. Application: Prep Step is used to condition surfaces prior to application of paint and/or coatings. Applying Prep Step to surfaces whether in a power wash, airless sprayer, or water bucket will clean and prepare the application surface to a ph6, which is perfect for painting. Prep Step is not only used before applying Zero Rust but is being used by powder coating applicatoins, epoxy applicantions to prime the paint surface allowing maximum adhesion and maximum coverage of the coating. Prep Step will increase the life of Zero Rust 30% to 70% and theoretically will doulbe the life of any coating or paint . Prep Step is not an acid. Rinse Tanks acid can be neutralized for phosphatizer line. Mix 40 pounds of Prep Step per 1000 Gallons of water and controls rust before powder coating.
Directions for use (top). Mix two ounces (2 heaping tablespoons) of Metal Condtioner per gallon of water, stirring until all crystals have dissolved. Apply with spray bottle, pressure washer or pump up tank sprayer. On raw non-rusted steel, simply allow the solution to dry. On rusted steel, allow full soaking of the rust. Work the entire surface with a wire brush to loosen rust and then allow the surface to dry. Pressure wash to remove all residues, then reapply Metal Condtioner solution and allow the surface to dry thoroughly before painting.
